Why are some companies willing to spend $10 Millionto sponsor the World Cup, or $1 Million to sponsor the Formula 1? To build powerful brand! You will understand what it means if 100 million people will be spotting your logo while they are watching the show via TV broadcast.

What if you are just an SMI and don't have such budget? There are still a lot of great sponsorship opportunities up for grabs.

Tips for Sponsorship Success for SMIs!

  • Identify events that will reach out to your target customers. If you are selling software, then you should consider the leading regional ICT shows, such as MSC-Multimedia Asia, (Malaysia) or CommunicAsia (Singapore).

  • Take the initiative to negotiate with the events organiser about your proposed sponsorship and show them what you can offer them, other than cash. You may be able to strike a deal with payment in cash and in kind.

  • After you’ve got the deal, that’s just the beginning of the end. You need to prepare for the event, which I have previously discussed. Now I will repeat the two most important keys to success.

    • Promote to your target customers before the event and give them a reason to look for you in the event. Email marketing is the most efficient and cost effective tool.

    • Train your booth staff well. Tell them exactly what they are supposed to do, proactively. They are not there just to attend to the booth. They are there to collect cards, solicit leads, and build relationships.
