EONENET.COM's chief executive officer Fione Tan and company co-founder Harrace Lau not only preach information and communication technology (ICT), but also live it.
The couple, who tied the knot in Hong Kong last month, held what they claimed was the first internet themed wedding reception in Asia. And they are planning to hold a similar reception for family and friends in Kuala Lumpur in June.
"Being active Internet marketing users, we turned our wedding into Internet style, first of all, by creating wedding e-invitation card, with RSVP online www.9wedding.com. We also launched a wedding blog to share the events and our feelings before and after the wedding at the site," Lau shared with Tech&U recently.
At the Hong Kong event, the reception table dispensed with the usual guest signing book, and was replaced by a video camera to shoot the greetings of guests, which were then be uploaded to Tan and Lau's wedding blog. The table where guests sat were given names of famous Web sites with the head table named eOneNet.com. Other tables were called, among others - Google, Yahoo, eBay, and YouTube. There were a few laptops with live Internet access, which enables guests to subribes to their blogs and post wishes for the couple.
"For the June reception, we will do the basic online items similar to what we did during the Hong Kong reception. In addition, we will be planning for more exciting items, which will be revealed only in June," said Lau.
So, from the technical perspective, what can be expected in Kuala Lumpu?
"There will be live posting on the Internet by wedding guests upon arrival at the reception. This is done via laptops set up at vatrious points at the wedding venue to allow guests to leave their wishes and comments. The venue will be equipped with wireless broadband connection," said Lau.
There will be a booth where digital photo frames will be placed plus multimedia presentations on computers to display various photos related to the bride and groom.
"Among the digital photo frames, we plan to include is the Official Google Digital Photo Frame presented to its valued customers and partners."
Like in Hong Kong, guests in Kuala Lumpur will be seated according to the world's top Web sites.
"Upon arrival, guests will be invited to sign in via a video recording to capture their wedding wishes for the newly-weds. We plan to upload these video recordings to popular sites like Youtube and Google Videos online. Instant wedding blog news updates will also be sent via e-mail to our blog subcribers to allow people from all around the world to also communicate and leave their response to us," Lau elaborated.
Even prior to the event, Lau said the Internet theme has kicked off starting with their online digital card invitation. "Guest can RSVP their attendance at www.9wedding.com, which has an automated database to capture all the information received. This also comes with instant auto response message to the guest to confirm that we have received them," said Lau.
