Romantic Valentine’s Day dinner @ Hong Kong
Back to our 2007 Valentine’s Day dinner, we checked out California Pizza Kitchen (as they had a nice nice view of the harbour area & the tables were widely separated apart), but when reaching there, we changed our minds as there was a long queue. This is going to be our last Valentine’s Day as a dating couple so we wanted to enjoy every single moment.
I’ve seen reviews about a popular Vietnamese restaurant in Harbour City shopping mall called Rice Paper and we’ve not been there yet, so we tried it out. The valentine’s day set would be about HK$1,000 but i asked for them whether we could order ala-carte as the set had things which i didn’t quite liked eating. Since it was already the later part of the evening, the waitress obliged.
When choosing a romantic venue as your dining spot, you should consider the decor at the restaurant, and the crowds to expect. It would be less romantic when you have other tables just next to you and the whole night, you have to put up with their loud conversations.
This vietnamese restaurant provided a soothing intimate feel, and we were able to enjoy a romantic dinner together.
We started off with their popular rice paper sugarcane prawns.

One thing about Vietnamese food is that they use lots of fresh leaves / spices. We basically used rice paper, and swept the lime sauce dipping onto the rice paper (which really looks like paper) and then the paper will turn slightly soft. Then next was to put in leaves, vegetables, and then the prawn meat after being removed from the sugarcane. Roll the ingredients and you will need to use your hands to eat this so it was fun. This tastes really nice and gave us an even bigger appetite for the next course. This appetizer was about HK$75.
Next on the list was the crabmeat noodles, and it was a really huge bowl.

The were lots of chunks of fresh crabmeat and the soup was creamy. I asked for more “cili padi” which was the small chillies and then added them to my noodles, but Harrace felt it was too spicy and kept on gulping on water. Since young, i’ve loved spicy food so this taste was just nice for me. The bowl of noodles was about HK$90
Finally we had dessert which was called French Kiss where we had raspberry sherbet (so little calories), which was sourish, and nougat ice-cream (creamy, and looks like vanilla).

There was mixture of sweet and sour taste to this dessert so it felt a little like couples being in relationships.
There is a wide selection of drinks available at this restaurant, and we tried out their version of the Vietnamese 3 coloured drink.
Normally at other vietnamese restaurants, it would be made of coconut milk (in Malaysia, we call it Santan), but this 3 coloured drinks was more fusion style, where it had taste of mango, and apricot so it was delicious too. A non acoholic drink like this is about HK$38 per glass. The service as this restaurant was above expectations and the waiters & waitresses were all smiling and eager to assist you. This vietnamese restaurant will surely be on our favourite list.
