I’ve just gotten back to Malaysia and contacted my wedding venue - Mandarin Oriental Hotel KLCC to check on the wedding arrangements.

Have you got a theme for your wedding? Some of the popular wedding themes are beach themes, “colour” theme such as pink, gold, blue, garden themes, and more. I think it’s best to choose a wedding theme that matters to the bride & groom, rather than just following the wedding planners’ advice.

Therefore, you should be checking on the wedding venues beforehand, about what you need? If you want a Pool barbeque theme, but the hotel has a miserable or small swimming pool then you might consider another hotel venue.

For my wedding, we have the MAIN theme as the Internet Theme, so there would be High Tech gadgets and fun games. The other theme we liked was from the 183 Club movie “Prince turns into a Frog”, so we had cute frogs with crowns placed in different venues of the event too. For guests that attended the Hong Kong wedding earlier in March, can remember the Frog Prince banners, Frog with Computer eCards, and even our Banner Storyboard with our wedding photos, that can along with the frog images too.

There were not much worries about our Frog prince idea, but the Internet themed wedding proved to be more challenging. Since we will be doing a High-Tech themed wedding i requested them to inform me of the rates for wireless Internet connection as well as cabled broadband internet access for the ballroom. Guess what they replied me? There’s no existing Internet connection in the hotel ballroom! Their wireless internet access were limited to the hotel lobby area and the guest rooms. Therefore, we would have to hire external contractors to provide us the internet access in the Ballroom, and i was shocked at the rates they were quoting:-
- Setup fees RM450 per cable point
- Per Hour usage of Internet Broadband at RM150 per computer

Since i was thinking to have a minimum of 5 PCs, i had to fork out RM450 for every single laptop and if i were to use them for 4 hours, the bill would come out to a shocking RM5,250 !

To expect that this was probably the most prominent hotel in Klang Valley, and being situated next to Malaysia’s iconic KLCC Twin Towers, i really have to saw that i am disappointed that the facilities were not as advanced as i thought it would be. Even in my earlier Hong Kong wedding i had wireless internet connection, from the 60th floor Ballroom! What choice have i got?

Moreover, how sure would i be that despite paying close to HK$12,000, that i will have uninterrupted broadband connection? I recalled doing some Internet events at Sheraton Subang Hotel and the Renaissance KL Hotel and in both situations, we were “down” for at least 15% of the time. I hope that the live internet connection during my wedding dinner, will not give me such nightmares!
