Romantic Holiday in Bali Island

We took time off for a romantic holiday to Bali Islands, as part of our first wedding anniversary celebrations. This is a memorable experience for both of us and it was our first time going to this island as husband and wife.

Day One : Shopping in Kuta Town

Day 1 started at the Hard Rock Hotel, just in the middle of Kuta town centre and facing the beach. Flying in from Kuala Lumpur, our Malaysia Airlines flight arrived in the afternoon and we took a cab to the hotel. We decided to use the money exchange downtown in Kuta as I found those rates better than what we could get in the airport. Be sure to hop around different money changers (some are just changing $ in their retail outlet), and you will find even up to 10% difference in the rate.

We had lunch in a local restaurant in Kuta centre ordering shrimp spaghetti in olive oil, shrimp crackers (keropok udang), and seafood tom yam soup (tom yam kuung), with his drinking ice lemongrass with honey tea, while I went with a fresh mixed fruit juice. Harrace made full use of his laptop by checking his email in the Coffee Bean Tea Leaf café while I sipped on the fruity ice-blended Malibu Dream drink.

The whole afternoon was just spent shopping on the main street and you’ll be amazed on how much genuine “fake” brands were around – Versace, Gucci or Calvin Klein. Therefore we ended up not buying much that day, but only local Balinese jewelry made of sea shells and silver jewelry.

In the evening, we walked back to the Hard Rock Hotel and went for a nice swim. The swimming pool was huge and there was the usual pool bar in the middle. The most interesting part was the sandy beach in the middle of the pool and that was turned into an “event hall” for a dinner function with a performing stage. Remember to leave your expensive high heel shoes in the room as you won’t want to get sand into your shoes.

After a swim, we headed out for dinner at the Sail restaurant, located just at the corner. Harrace ordered seafood platter with bloody mary oyster, soft shell crab, scallops while I had a king prawn pizza. He had the lemongrass hot tea while I went with fresh fruit juice.

What did we do after dinner? One of my favourite past-time hobby, shopping again! This time I managed to buy a pair of beaded sandals and went to try out some beach styled clothes but couldn’t find anything that I liked. Well, I’ve just been to Bali in August 2007 so I have bought over 10 pieces of apparels during that trip.

There was nothing better than having a great massage so we went to the local spa for a two hour session of scrub & body massage and wow, all the places were packed. However, just as I was almost going to get relaxed, a huge family with noisy kids came to patron the spa and turned the spa into a theme park. I couldn’t wait to finish my treatment so that I could have a tranquil night.

Just before going back to the hotel, I headed to the food court located just next to the Hard Rock Hotel .Other F & B outlets include Pizza Hut, 24 Hour McDonalds, Shanghainese restaurant, and to purchase any other items, you can use the 24 hour convenience store here too.

Late at night and worried about increasing my weight, I settled with just a coconut and check out how huge this fruit is! Not as sweet as the Thai coconut, but triple its size, the Bali coconut is sure a great thirst quencher. Harrace ordered milk tea with tiramisu cake. Then we headed back to the hotel for a good rest and it’s just the start of our holiday in
